Mark H. Kula is in his eighteenth year as Cantor of Bet Shira Congregation in Miami, Florida. Previously, he was Assistant Cantor of New York's Park Avenue Synagogue. Born in New York to Cantor Morton and Charlotte Kula, Mark is one of six brothers. He is presently the only first second-generation graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary's H. L. Miller Cantorial School. He holds degrees from Columbia University, The Jewish Theological Seminary, and New York City University. A lyric baritone, Cantor Kula effectively inspires his listeners in both prayer and concert. Cantor Kula has earned distinction in the areas of education and programming. Cantor Kula's innovative music programming cultivates cultural and religious Judaism while building a sense of community. Kula feels that being a Cantor fuses love of people, Judaism, and Jewish music. Cantor Kula established the Annual Tu BiShevat Concerts celebrating Jewish Earth Day. He commissioned Time of the Trees and released it on a CD of Jewish environmental music.

Cantor Kula serves on the Cantors Assembly Executive Board, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Drug Free Youth in Town and MERCAZ USA. Cantor Kula joined the Cantors Assembly Mission to Israel during the first Gulf War and participated in the inaugural clergy mission to Eastern Europe in 1996 and served as guest Hazzan at Budapest's Dohaney Temple. Cantor Kula has been instrumental in leading a dozen community trips to Israel and served as an educator and bus captain for the 2006 International March of the Living. He has been recognized in journals and newspapers and was on the editorial panel of the publication of the Cantors Assembly 2006 High Holiday Zamru Lo. In May 2007, Cantor Kula was guest artist at the Jewish Museum of Miami Beach, presenting a musical program of American Jewish composers in celebration of American Jewish Heritage month. Cantor Kula's role as a Hazzan involves leadership in community activities, connecting to Israel, facilitating Tikkun Olam and enlightening students of all ages.
