Rabbi Micah Caplan received his Rabbinic Ordination from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles (The Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies) in May 2002. He also received his Masters in Rabbinic Studies from the University of Judaism in May 2000. Rabbi Caplan graduated Cum Laude from Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona with a B.A. in Broadcasting/Communications from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and received his Certificate of Concentration in Jewish Studies.

Before coming to Bet Shira Congregation, Rabbi Caplan served as Rabbi for Congregation Shaarei Torah in Arcadia, California from 2002-2005. While serving as the spiritual leader of the Congregation for three years he worked as a Rabbinic Chaplain at the City of Hope Medical Center and taught at the University of Judaism’s Rabbinical School.

Rabbi Caplan has also Co-Chaired the Pacific Southwest Region’s Rabbinical Assembly Convention and has served on the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies’ admissions committee.

Rabbi Caplan grew up in a Conservative Jewish home, attending Camp Ramah in Ojai, California for over 13 years as a camper, counselor, Rosh Edah and Rabbi in Residence and was extremely involved in Far West Region USY both as a USYer and Youth Director. Rabbi Caplan’s father was a Cantor within the Conservative Movement and his mother serves as a Music Educator both privately and for the Academy of Jewish Religion in Los Angeles.

Since coming to Bet Shira, Rabbi Caplan has created a number of new activities that include our Weekly Torah Express and our Monthly Mincha Magic experience. Rabbi Caplan is also actively involved with the ECC, Religious School and Youth programs.

Rabbi Caplan is married to Michelle, and They are the proud parents of three beautiful children, Brianah, Julia and Avi.
